This photo of a scribblygum was traced with a graphics tablet connected to Inkscape, and saved it as a PDF format file. The file was then converted to Numerical Control format used to control an automated drilling machine. The first attempt to route the image into a plywood panel produced a lot of burring of the surface.

Bill Shelley in the Industrial Design Lab at UC helped me to find  a rate of movement and spindle speed of the drill bit that minimised burring (i.e.  rate 250, spindle 18000). After 4 trials a final version was routed into a 2400 x 1200 x 4mm plywood panel. Linda Davy mounted the panel as sliding doors in a storage cabinet.
